Newell Promenade re-engages and ignites Downtown Walnut Creek's creekside promenade.

A proposed mixed-use, infill development comprised of a podium building with 4,200 square feet of retail and restaurant space on the ground floor and 102 for-rent units above it. Newell Promenade features dual, connecting pedestrian promenades that extend and connect to Downtown Walnut Creek's existing pedestrian experience. The proposed design maximizes the site's corner location along Downtown Walnut Creek's main artery, at the intersection of South Main Street and Newell Avenue, a mere block away from where the pedestrian experience currently begins and across the street from Kaiser hospital with the Las Trampas Creek running along the backside of the site. The area connects to major public transit via a free shuttle that goes between Downtown Walnut Creek and the Walnut Creek BART Station. 

The residential use will front onto the backside of the site with an increased setback from the creek and stoop style units that allows the design to utilize the creek as an amenity for residents to enjoy a connection to nature not often found within the urban context, complementing the podium amenities. Completing the transformation of the existing neglected, isolated pathway into an activated landscaped creekside promenade is artistic integration of LED lighting and public art sculptures. The front side features an inviting plaza with indoor/outdoor retail and restaurant space overlooked by the unusually spacious balconies, suitable for hosting guests, of the for-rent residential units above.
