The Luxury Man Cave
It starts at a very young age, the need for the male gender to have a space of their very own. We can all conjure up the image of a young boy in his treehouse with the sign on the door that reads, "No Girls Allowed." From this point on the concept is simply accepted and implemented in his living arrangements, from boyhood to manhood, through high school, college and eventually into the purchase of his first new home.
In trying to understand this phenomenon, we would refer our readers to the book Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, whereby author John Gray, Ph. D. asserts that men, somewhat solitary by nature, will retreat to their "cave" to forget about their problems during times of emotional stress. Anyone who has lived with a male can attest to the fact that there is something transformative that occurs after a male, be he child, adolescent or man, has "recharged" in his cave.
As a premier interior design firm for some of America's finest home builders, we have been given the opportunity to create some very impressive man caves. Unlike the dorm room, first apartment or thrown-together cave of the younger years, the luxury man-cave can materialize in many different ways.
There will always be men who want their cave to be in a garage, where they can disassemble and reassemble things at will. But there is also a place inside the home for a high-end, comfortable and beautifully decorated room in which the design choices are decidedly masculine.
